GEAR RATIO TABLE

Check your gear ratio with this simple calculator

In cycling, the gear ratio, determined by the number of teeth on the chain ring and sprocket, combined with the cyclist's cadence (pedaling speed) and the wheel diameter, dictates the bike's speed. A higher gear ratio means covering more ground per pedal stroke but requires more effort, while a lower ratio makes pedaling easier but covers less distance. This understanding is essential for cyclists to select the most efficient gear for various terrains, ensuring optimal performance and endurance.

How does this calculator work

Choose a median chainring (the ring in the front) number of cogs

Choose a median sprocket (the rings in the back on the cassette) number of cogs

It will make a table listing equivalences of combinations

Note that 3 means that for every revolution of the pedal around the pedal, the sprocket and thus the wheels will turn 3 times.
